Six steps, in order, every time.

You see a drawing before wood is cut, a price before a deposit, and photographs before delivery.

How a commission goes

Every commission runs the same six steps, so you always know where your piece is. Sample timings for a sample studio.

Week 1
A conversation
A call or a studio visit. We talk about the room, how the piece will be used, what you like and what you do not. No charge, no obligation.
Weeks 2 to 3
Drawings
Scaled drawings with the wood, the joinery and the finish named, and a written price. You approve the drawing before anything is cut.
Week 4
Deposit and materials
A deposit books your place in the queue. Boards are chosen for the piece, photographed and sent to you, then rough-milled and left to settle.
Weeks 5 to 12
Making
Joinery, shaping and fitting, with a photo update at every milestone. A visit to see the piece dry-fitted is always welcome.
Weeks 13 to 14
Finishing
Hand-sanded through the grits, then oiled, cured and buffed. Finishing is a third of the hours and the part nobody sees.
Weeks 15 to 16
Delivery
Delivered and set in place by the studio within a day's drive, or crated for the freight company beyond that. The balance is due at delivery.

Commissions are open. The next bench slot is about four months out.
